2018 NBA Mock Draft: Time for the Final Four
Indiana, along with Chicago, is team that should be prioritizing young two-way wings above any other asset. The Pacers are in the interesting of being headed back toward contention much more quickly than they planned after the Paul George trade, so they are not in position to draft a raw young big man or overseas stash at this spot. In Knox, they would get a 3-and-D contributor who could grow with Victor Oladipo and Myles Turner.
Knox shot 34 percent from distance this season, crafting a 55.7 true shooting percentage by shooting slightly above average from 2, 3 and on free-throws. He has the making of an efficient offensive player if the ball is out of his hands and he is finishing open looks at the rim and behind the arc. Oladipo is the lead ball-handler and shot creator for Indiana, and Knox would make his life easier, especially if the Kentucky freshman can survive at the 4 in the NBA.
The Pacers have young talent at the guard and big man spots, but very little on the wing, evidenced by how big the return of Glenn Robinson III was for the team this month. Knox is not the shot-creating second star Oladipo will one day need, but he is a high-end role player not easy to find on the cheap.
The Pacers would be better with Knox.
