OF, High-End Spend

Charlie Blackmon, $4,000

.519/.552/..926 with 3 HR in 27 at-bats

If you’re a firm believer in batter vs pitcher data, Blackmon should stick out like a sore thumb. He has absolutely owned Ray in their encounters and the Rockies leadoff hitter can rack up points in a hurry even if he doesn’t hit a homer. A deeper dive makes sense of Blackmon’s big numbers as Ray primarily leaned on his four seamer and slider in 2017. Blackmon hammers those two pitches, even though it’s a lefty on lefty matchup. A Rockies stack may not be the way to go, but you should definitely take a look at Blackmon. He can steal a base, he should score at least run and he should be good for at least 1one or two hits. It’s a high price of admission but he could be the best part of the Colorado offense to own today.

If you take the all day route, please play Bryce Harper ($5,000). He’s in a great park against a poor pitcher and has a great history on his Opening Day.

Also in consideration – J.D. Martinez, $4,300  and Giancarlo Stanton, $4,600

Mid-Range

Khris Davis, $3,200

.667/.625/1.500 with 1 HR in 6 at-bats

This is another batter vs. pitcher special and Khris Davis looks like he could be in prime position for a great night. Not only has he smacked around Angels starter Tyler Skaggs in their limited encounters, Davis has great numbers across the board against the Angels pitching staff. Davis is coming off a big season in 2017. He had a hard contact percentage of 42.1 and cut down on his swings on pitches outside the strike zone. Skaggs throws a four-seam fastball almost 50 percent of the time in his career and Davis feasts on them. He’s also good against the curveball, which has traditionally been the second-most used pitch for Skaggs. Last but not least, Davis was superior in batting average and homers at home in 2017. He also started off well yesterday with a three-run bomb.

Also in consideration – Justin Upton, $3,600 and Adam Eaton, $3,100

Value

Josh Reddick, $2,900

.294/.294/.353 with 0 HR in 17 at-bats

The Astros face off against the Rangers and pitcher Doug Fister Friday night. Houston has one of the best offenses in the league, has a high implied run total, and is the favorite. Reddick is a fairly cheap way to get a piece of this game and he did very well against righties last year. Keep an eye on the lineup, as the Astros do have plenty of options. Reddick should still have a pretty safe spot on the second day of the season, though.

Also in consideration – Corey Dickerson, $2,600 and Randall Grichuk, $2,400
