Need more ways to help Kirk Cousins be successful in the Minneosta offense? Pick up big red zone targets in the draft, like Oklahoma tight end Mark Andrews.

Andrews (6-foot-5 and 256 pounds) established himself as one of Baker Mayfield’s top targets for the Sooners last season, tallying 62 receptions for 958 yards and eight touchdowns. Andrews came to campus in Norman as a five-star recruit and even managed to catch seven touchdowns on just 19 receptions during his freshman season.

Andrews is a mismatch, especially in the red zone, displaying the ability to box out opposing defensive backs with his massive frame and long arms. He lacks the speed and quickness to separate easily but his soft, reliable hands also allow him to make adjustments to the ball on the fly, often bailing his quarterback out on poorly-thrown passes.

The biggest knock on Andrews’ game is his lack of run blocking ability, ultimately making him more of a big slot receiver than a true tight end. Despite his huge frame, Andrews displays poor effort and technique as a blocker and can’t be counted on to get you a push in short-yardage situations.

I would expect Minnesota to look at a tight end early in this draft and heading into next season with a tight end trio of Kyle Rudolph, Bucky Hodges and Andrews would have you feeling real good about the team’s red zone chances.
