St Louis Blues X factor: Vladimir Tarasenko

The Russian sniper may not be having his best season to date, but on any given shift, Vladimir Tarasenko has the potential to ignite a potent St. Louis offense into the post season.

Coming into the season, Tarasenko had the opportunity to show the NHL he was a true star, but his inconsistent play did not reflect star status. On the campaign, the Russian has 62 points in 74 games. Through March, Tarasenko began to heat up, recording five goals and two assists through nine games.

The Blues have a power play that ranks 29th in the league, which is unfathomable on a team composed of Tarasenko and teammates Jaden Schwartz, Brayden Schenn, Alex Pietrangelo and Alexander Steen. Tarasenko had 22 points on the man advantage last season, and if he can find his groove, his play alone could lead a starving St. Louis power play to a great increase in production. An increase in power play production could promptly help a Blues team that currently sits 24th in the NHL in goals for.

Tarasenko is currently playing on the Blues’ top line with Jaden Schwartz and Brayden Schenn. This line is as skilled as any top line in the league, and has the potential to take over games. Look for the trio to increase its play as the playoff race heats up, and Tarasenko to be a catalyst in doing so. Let’s not forget that through the end of 2017, at times, this was the best line in hockey.

The St. Louis Blues have the ultimate X factor in Tarasenko. Don’t be surprised to see the Russian stud go on a tear and lead the Blues to a postseason berth.
