5. Denver Broncos

Unlike Buffalo, the Broncos went and got a quarterback this offseason in Case Keenum. This means that Allen can sit for a season, but if John Elway thinks Allen is ready, he likely won’t have a problem letting the rookie play. This is exactly the opportunity that Allen needs, some other teams would decide that he is sitting the whole year no matter what. The Broncos are different. While most of the teams in need of a quarterback aren’t expected to compete, the Broncos have a top-tier defense and are ready to compete now. That means the best quarterback will play.

I worry that the Broncos will grow tired of not having a quarterback who gives them a heightened ability to throw the deep ball. Last year, on passes of 20+ yards, Keenum was around league in performance, while he was above average below 20 yards. Allen provides that deep dimension. This could lead to the Broncos starting Allen sooner than he is ready.

Receiver wise, Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders have some of the most diverse route trees. They mostly stay within 20 yards, but this was likely due to the weaker arm of Trevor Siemian. Allen will give them the opportunity to start going deep again and utilize their abilities to run many different routes over the course of a game. Now, neither of these players get extremely open, with Thomas averaging 2.3 yards of separation and Sanders 2.4. This will test the shaky accuracy of Allen.

Allen is likely to be quickly promoted within the Broncos, getting him the starting job before he is ready, and the receivers aren’t ideal for his skill set. That being said, it is the best situation isn’t here, but it isn’t the worst.
