FanDuel daily picks: Fantasy baseball lineup – April 2, 2018
C/1B, High-End Spend
Early Slate
Gary Sanchez, $3,600
N/A
The reason I want to stack the Yankees and that there’s an “N/A” where the batting stats would normally go is the rays appear to be set up to try and attack New York with members of their bullpen all sharing pitching duties. I’ll take my chances with the big bats from the Bronx Bombers all day long in that type of matchup. Sanchez has been very quiet so far which just means he’s closer to the next home run.
Main Slate
Paul Goldschmidt, $4,400
.428/.478/.810 with 2 HRs in 21 at-bats
In some ways, I’m pretty happy that there’s not an expensive pitching option on the board because there are a lot of offenses in good spots tonight. One building block might be Arizona’s first baseman as Goldschmidt has destroyed Ryu in their careers. Goldy was also in the top 20 in MLB in OPS vs. lefties in 2017. He’s in a smash spot tonight.
Mid-Range
Early Slate
Yadier Molina, $2,800
.214/.214/.214 with 0 HRs in 14 at-bats
The ageless wonder has come out of the gates smoking hot in 2018. He now gets to travel to Miller Park, which ranked eighth in park factors in 2017. The personal matchup with Molina and pitcher Zach Davies doesn’t look like anything incredible. Still, he carries a pretty reasonable price in a solid park. He’s at least worth a look.
Main Slate
Matt Olson, $3,500
0 at-bats vs. Bartolo Colon
Simply put, Bartolo Colon really shouldn’t be a major league pitcher at this point. He has a very low strikeout rate and his fly ball percentage and home run to fly ball percentage are both through the roof. This sets up perfectly for Olson(and the rest of the A’s) to smack him around tonight.
Value
Early Slate
Manny Pina, $2,400
0 at-bats vs. Mile Mikolas
If you really need the extra $400 from Molina to make your lineup, Pina appears to be a solid alternative. While Pina’s home/road splits are very similar, he does hit righties much better. Mikolas is making his first MLB start since 2014 after a successful career overseas. Milwaukee’s catcher hasn’t done much so far but that could change this afternoon.
Main Slate
Joey Gallo, $2,600
.000/.000/.000 in 2 at-bats
Gallo was the only Ranger that could figure out Gerrit Cole on Sunday, hitting a home run off the power righty. His price is still quite low for a player with his power bat and Gallo is batting .250 through the first four games. That doesn’t sound too great until you remember that he’s a career .200 hitter. Gallo could be in for a big power year and it could continue tonight in Oakland.
