FanDuel daily picks: Fantasy baseball lineup – April 2, 2018
Shortstop, High End Spend
Early Slate
Didi Gregorius, $3,600
N/A
It’s interesting to note that Gregorius has some drastic home/road splits in 2017. It probably isn’t what people would be expecting either, because he was way better on the road than at home. Much like Travis Shaw, it’s hard to believe that carries over to this year. Shortstop is a difficult position to fill and Gregorius might be worth the spend on the four game slate.
Main Slate
Trea Turner, $4,600
0 at-bats vs. Sean Newcomb
He’s still a touch to expensive for my tastes given where he bats in the order. However, Turner can be a nightmare on the bases in any game. He’s also a righty batter in SunTrust Park, so the same logic applies here as it did for Rendon. What is interesting is Turner has reverse splits in his career. This means even though he’s a righty hitter, he’s hit righty pitchers better. Sean Newcomb may not represent the best matchup on paper. He has tortured Braves pitching with a .500 average in 20 at-bats.
Mid-Range
Early Slate
Jedd Gyorko, $2,500
.625/.667/1.000 with 1 HR in 16 at-bats
It’s going to be a difficult decision at the shortstop position for the early slate. Gyorko is in just as good(if not better) spot as Gregorius but he is massively cheaper. I know it might be getting redundant at this point, but players have to understand they need big pieces of two specific games on this slate. If both these games go high scoring and you’re going contrarian, you’ll get left in the dust. Gyorko sees Davies extremely well and I’m assuming many will flock towards Gregorius.
Main Slate
Marcus Semien, $3,000
0 at-bats vs. Bartolo Colon
This is a great way to attack Colon as Semien is better against righties and he has plenty of pop. If you wanted to build an A’s stack, I’m not here to talk you out of it. If it weren’t for a cheaper player in the Value slot, I’d be very interested in Semien tonight.
Value
There’s nobody that really sticks out. The only one players could take the leap is Orlando Arcia at $2,200 but that’s not the route I’ll be going.
Main Slate
Tim Anderson, $2,700
0 at-bats vs. Jaime Garcia
I’m all aboard with the young White Sox shortstop tonight. He’s started out on fire and draws a lefty on the mound tonight, whom he has historically hit much better than righties. He’s got an excellent chance to hit one out of the park tonight and his price is very easy to afford and get up to a teammate later on.
