Round 5 – Pick 144

Colby Gossett, G, Appalachian State

After choosing to pick Saquon Barkley over Quenton Nelson, the Buccaneers still have a void at a guard position. The team was able to address their offensive line a bit in free agency with the signing of center Ryan Jensen from the Baltimore Ravens. Next to Jensen is a solid starter in Ali Marpet. The team is still missing another piece on the interior. Colby Gossett of Appalachian State could fill that void.

Gossett is one of the few mid to late round players that has starter potential from the get-go. The first thing that jumps off the screen when watching this talented guard is his frame. Despite playing for a small school, this is no small man. The 6-foot-5 and 315 pound guard was a versatile lineman during his time, playing both guard and tackle.

One issue scouts have with Gossett is his struggles against Georgia. However, he showed promise in 2017 against power five teams in Tennessee and Miami. His strong showing on the bench press (32 reps) prove that he has the play strength to get on the field right away. A strong training camp, with NFL level coaching, could do wonders for a physical player like Gossett. His strength is his physical strength but he has enough talent to stick with an NFL team and possibly be a starter in the right scheme.
