Sacramento is hopefully on its way to not being a laughing stock for the league, with a group of interesting young players that have been given the green light to grow their game. What they could use at this point in their rebuild is a go-to scoring prospect.

Picking outside the top three, it can be difficult for a team like the Kings to find that centerpiece player. Buddy Hield, De’Aaron Fox, Skal Labissiere and Justin Jackson appear to be excellent role players, but not go-to players on offense. That’s fine —  efficient, high-volume offense is what gets the very best players in the NBA paid.

Porter did not have a legitimate opportunity to show his scoring touch in two college games this year. After injuring his back minutes into his freshman debut, the 6-10 forward came back in time to join his team for the NCAA tournament, but put together a couple grotesque shooting nights and took the Tigers out of rhythm at the most important point in their season. I’m sure Porter wishes he had more of a chance to prove himself.

However, the all-around package is still appealing. Porter is a massive dude, nearly seven feet tall with broad shoulders and tree-branch arms. And his comfort scoring from all three levels sets him apart from all but the most freakish scoring forwards to come through the league. Sacramento has no one close to Porter.
