Round 2 – Pick 59

Jamarco Jones, T, Ohio State

The 49ers were aggressive in free agency with a ton of cap space. They upgraded the interior of their offensive line with the signing of former New York Giants’ center Weston Richburg. Remaining All-Pro Joe Staley anchors the left side, despite being 33 years old. Former first round pick Josh Garnett and Laken Tomlinson flank Richburg. Opposite Staley, Trent Brown has been solid as a right tackle. The team needs to prepare for a future without Staley.

Grabbing Jamarco Jones would give the team a swing tackle and an heir for Staley. Jones is an All Big 10 tackle out of Ohio State. He started his career contributing as the team’s sixth lineman for his first two seasons. After Taylor Decker left for the NFL (and a first round pick) Jones stepped i seamlessly. As a former top 100 recruit, the talent was evident and it took some time for him to mature into the starting role.

Jones brings excellent length and feet to the tackle position. While lacking ideal height, only being 6-foot-4, he makes up for it with a fantastic kick slide to set up pass protection. Learning under Staley would do wonder for Jones. He could learn the techniques that made Staley an All-Pro while continuing to work on his body. With a solid offseason of work and increasing his lower body drive, Jones has all the tools to be a solid blind side blocker for franchise quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo.
