FanDuel picks and lineup for Saturday, April 7
Catcher/First Base, High End Spend
Early
Paul Goldschmidt, $3,700
.111/.273/.222 with 0 HR in 9 at-bats
What’s kind of crazy with Goldy is he’s started off the season hitting .091 (not a typo) and with only two measly RBI … and he’s still averaging over eight FanDuel points a game. I don’t care that he hasn’t seen Michael Wacha well. A big game is coming from a perennial All-Star and potential MVP. His price likely won’t get much lower and players who just hunt the game logs might gloss over him today.
Main
Joey Votto, $3,700
.750/.833/1.750 with 1 HR in 4 at-bats
The numbers certainly catch your eye but it is a small sample size. Still, when Votto sees any pitcher this well, it at least gets my attention, regardless of the sample size. Freddie Freeman is certainly in play at Coors Field but it’s really hard to pay $1,400 more than Votto. We may try our hands at other portions of the offense in Colorado tonight.
Mid-Range
Early
Hanley Ramirez, $3,400
.000/.000/.000 with 0 HR in 3 at-bats
The wily old veteran for Boston has started off 2018 pretty well, hitting over .300. The funny part of his season is that he has more stolen bases than home runs right now. He did state he wanted to go 30/30 this season and when he’s on his game, Ramirez is still one of the games better pure hitters. It’s hard to ignore how he’s swinging the bat at the moment.
Main
Matt Olson, $3,600
0 at-bats vs. JC Ramirez
Last season, the A’s slugger ranked inside the top 50 against the slider. That bodes well for him tonight because JC Ramirez throws his slider well over 30 percent of the time. He was also good agains the four seam fastball. Even though he’s a bit more expensive than a true mid-range play, he has to be mentioned in this space. It’s possible to play him and Votto, although we still want some Coors exposure as well.
Value
Early
Wilmer Flores, $2,000
.217/.280/.348 with 1 HR in 23 at-bats
Flores is sitting at minimum salary and carries career marks of a .836 OPS and a .345. wOBA against lefties. Gio Gonzalez is coming off a great effort in his first start and Flores certainly has no track record of success. He’s still minimum salary on a slate where Yankee bats are at a premium. That’s a big key for this slate.
Main
Kurt Suzuki, $2,500
.400/.500/1.200 with 1 HR in 5 at-bats
The one man in the Atlanta lineup who has taken Rockies starter Chad Bettis yard is … Kurt Suzuki. The veteran backstop certainly isn’t know for his power ability, but when you can get a player in Coors for $2,500, you have to at least consider it. It’s always going to be hard to fit in many because every player gets the Coors pricing. Suzuki seems to be immune to that and could be a great punt.
