WWE WrestleMania 34: Preview and predictions
United States Championship Fatal 4-Way: Randy Orton (c) vs. Jinder Mahal vs. Bobby Roode vs. Rusev
I want so badly to care about the United States Championship match at the Showcase of the Immortals. However, this has often been the one title within WWE that the company just doesn’t know how to elevate it. Even if they make a smart decision with who wins the belt, they always seem to revert back to the ways of making it seem somewhat irrelevant. And now we have this happening once again when it comes to Randy Orton holding the strap, because that’s not inspiring anyone at this point.
Orton has long been one of those guys that, if he’s not into what program he’s booked into, he’s not going to be that entertaining. I wouldn’t say that he’s completely checked out right now, but he’s somewhere in the gray area between engaged and checked out. And when you combine that with guys like Jinder Mahal and Bobby Roode, who don’t have much excitement around them, it’s somewhat hard to really sell yourself on being into this match as a fan.
That’s why the inclusion of Rusev in this match is so important. Far and away, he has the most fan support right now of anyone in this match and Rusev Day is as over as anything in the entire company. And while he’s a late inclusion in the match to make it a Fatal 4-Way, I don’t see any way that WWE can have him be so vastly favored by everyone in the crowd in this match just from a buzz perspective and not give him the US title.
Prediction: It’s Rusev Day
