WWE Universal Championship Match

Brock Lesnar (c) vs. Roman Reigns

What we learned: Well, I think we all learned here that we don’t know as much as we all think we do. For the last year, things have been leading to Roman Reigns dethroning Brock Lesnar and sending him back to UFC and after kicking out of multiple F-5s, that seemed inevitable. Until it wasn’t.

The live crowd and the majority of people on social media hated this match, but I don’t know exactly what they were expecting here, outside of the obvious Roman Reigns coronation that never came. This was never going to be a technical affair. This was going to be a brutal, physical slugfest and that’s exactly what it was. Was it the best main event in WrestleMania history? Of course not. It was never going to be. Hell, it was never going to be the best match on this stacked card. But it certainly wasn’t as bad as everyone made it out to be, at least not in my opinion.

They got after it right from the start with Lesnar charging in and it was the typical spots that we expected, with just a little bit more brutality and intensity. They worked the inside and outside of the ring with Reigns spearing Lesnar onto the announce table, which Reigns would taste himself later on with yet another F5. The biggest surprise of the match, outside of the ending anyway, was the amount of blood that Reigns lost. I mean, he had a lot of color here, way worse than what we saw with Randy Orton a couple of years back. But even with that happening, Reigns was still able to hit some big spears. But Lesnar hit another F5 to pick up another surprise victory in New Orleans.

What’s next: So now what? After all of that build, Reigns couldn’t get the job done. But we now know that he’ll get at least one more chance. With the news that Lesnar will stay in WWE for the time being, the two will get it on in a Steel Cage Match at the Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia on April 27. So that could get interesting. This may be the coronation that we all expected on Sunday night.
