No. 2: Mark Stone

If the Dallas Stars are really set on addressing their scoring depth, and they’re set on addressing it with proven talent, go and get Mark Stone.

The 25 year old right winger for the dismal Ottawa Senators has put up 20 goals and at least 50 points in his last four seasons.  He put up 62 this year while making peanuts compared to some of the other guys in the NHL. His responsibility in his own zone is also fantastic. He’s put up plus numbers in four of his first six years. That should make Ken Hitchcock more than happy if Nill is able to go out and sign him.

For those wanting a young forward who could slot into a second line role and provide immediate production, this is it. The question, as always, is his health. Stone missed a large portion of the season. Yet he still managed to put up better than a point a game. Those are numbers that will probably net him a huge swath of cash.

With rumors in constant motion that the Senators are going to lose Erik Karlsson this offseason, we have to doubt that Ottawa won’t do everything it can to retain Stone, a guy who is a sixth round pick turned cornerstone player. But with the shape of the franchise and the way the current season unfolded for the Sens, Stone might be just as likely to find that huge cash out with another team, no matter how much Ottawa decides to throw at him.
