3. Denver Broncos

The Broncos signed Case Keenum during free agency this year. While Keenum was undrafted coming out of college, he was similar to Mayfield in that he is a historically accurate college passer, 6th of all time. This makes him a great fit to work with Mayfield, regardless of who is the starter at any given point in the season. He understands how to make the transition to the NFL and survive a tumultuous start to a career.

The Broncos will put Mayfield’s accuracy to the test. While Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders have the ability to run every route, neither gets very much separation from the defender, 2.3 and 2.4 yards of separation, respectively. This means that the quarterback has to put the ball in the right spot so they don’t have to fit the defender for it. Mayfield is the best at that in this class.

One thing that can block this fit from working perfectly is the Broncos offensive line. While they were a top-10 run blocking line last season, they were the third-worst pass blocking line. Mayfield’s height requires a clean pocket that he can look out of. His ability to make plays on the run may cover this, but any plays in the pocket will need a clean pocket.

Mayfield is primed to throw to Denver’s potentially dynamic receivers and is mobile enough to deal with the offensive line. Simply, better fits keep them from being higher on this list.
