5 potential landing spots for Dez Bryant
4. Chicago Bears
Similar to what the Philadelphia Eagles did with Carson Wentz last offseason, the Bears have prioritized surrounding quarterback Mitch Trubisky with talent this offseason. Allen Robinson and Taylor Gabriel are coming as the new top two wide receivers, and Super Bowl trick play passer Trey Burton was brought in with an opportunity to be a No. 1 tight end.
But the rest of Chicago’s wide receivers don’t inspire much confidence. Former first-round pick Kevin White is coming back from another injury heading into a make-or-break year for him, and Josh Bellamy and Tanner Gentry cannot be counted on for big roles. The draft could bring multiple options in to fortify the group, perhaps as early as the No. 8 pick, but all paths to adding wide receivers should be open.
Alshon Jeffery had nine touchdown catches last year (eight from Wentz), and Bryant could deliver similarly for Trubisky in a way Bears’ wide receivers other than Robinson may not be able to in the scoring area of the field.
“Route guru” David Robinson has suggested Bryant’s decline is being overblown, and using him differently will unlock mismatches and upside. New Bears head coach Matt Nagy may be the perfect offensive mind to unearth those possibilities, and any value still attached to Bryant’s reputation could make things easier for the entire Chicago offense.
