Second Base, High End Spend

Jose Altuve, $4,400

.300/.400/.450 with 1 HR in 20 games

If you’ve read this column at all, one of the times that I’m willing to pay up for Altuve is when he faces a bad lefty pitcher. As we talked about for Evan Gattis, Cole Hamels is not a good pitcher anymore for the Rangers. He has been striking out more batters than anyone thought, but Altuve is one of the best hitters in the game. He’s hitting .353 but with only two doubles and no homers. A big game is coming very soon for the defending A.L. MVP. It could come as soon as tonight.

Also Consider – Josh Harrison, $3,600

Mid-Range

Ian Kinsler, $2,900

.353/.450/.706 with 2 HR in 17 at-bats

The veteran just got back from an injury to start off the season and he got going with a bang with a home run in his first at-bat. Now he gets Jason Hammel, who has has hit very well in the past. Even though Hammel has the ball park advantage in his favor, he’s giving up a lot of fly balls and his share of hard contact. Kinsler doesn’t need to hit a bomb to pay off his very reasonable price tag when he’s hitting in front of Mike Trout and Justin Upton.

Also Consider – Howie Kendrick, $2,900

Value

Brock Holt, $2,200

.538/.538/.538 with 0 HR in 13 at-bats

Even though there is a massive 13 games to cover on the slate, I’m a little excited to attack Chris Tillman with value plays from the Red Sox. Their offense is on fire right now as they have scored 45 runs their past five games. It doesn’t seem like Tillman is going to be the pitcher that makes the bleeding stop and Holt has scored at least six FanDuel points in his last three games. Since he’s in the lineup while Xander Bogaerts is hurt, it may have taken a little time to shake off the rust from the bench. At a mere $2,200, he might be worth a shot this evening.

Also Consider – Ketel Marte, $2,500
