Shortstop, High End Spend

Early

Paul DeJong, $3,800

1.000/1.000/2.000 with 0 HR in 1 at-bats

His numbers so far against lefties look very poor but I’ll side with his 2017 numbers as they’re the bigger sample size. Last season, his OPS was .952 and his ISO was .313. The wOBA was also sky high at .392. He does strikeout quite a bit and that’s still a concern this year. Even with the low floor, the ceiling could be worth chasing down today.

Main

Corey Seager, $3,700

.444/.444/.778 with 1 HR in 9 at-bats

If you pay up for the good life at shortstop tonight, Seager is a pretty clear play. He’s had good success against Walker and there’s a good chance at at least a mini-Dodgers stack this evening. I have no faith Walker is an above average pitcher and he doesn’t strike a ton of players out. Seager is one of the better young hitters in the game and he appears to be coming around a little bit. he’s posted at least six FanDuel points in seven of his last eight games. Tonight could easily be a double digit effort.

Mid-Range

Early

Eduardo Escobar, $3,400

.313/.313/.563 with 0 HR in 16 at-bats

Escobar has been filling in admirably for the suspended Jorge Polanco, hitting close to .300. He draws a favorable matchup today against Miguel Gonzalez who he has seen really well in their careers. He’s not going to provide a ton of power but is a well rounded player in a solid offense.

Main

Jordy Mercer, $2,700

N/A

The prices starting to get a little high for my liking because the ceiling is a little limited with Mercer. We generally like to play Mercer against lefties when we can but the price is also typically a little lower. With an unproven lefty on the mound, he’s in play for sure. I’ll be very interested to see where he’s hitting before making the final decision.

Value

Early

Jose Peraza, $2,800

N/A

Frankly, Peraza seems a little pricey in a vacuum. He’s not a great hitter but the stolen base upside is there, as he’s stolen two in his last five games. There’s not a lot to hang your hat on other than he’s under $3,000 and you’ll need multiple value players with an ace pitcher.

Main

Franklin Barreto, $2,000

N/A

This would be strictly a punt play and Barreto may not even be in the lineup. he would draw a lefty and at least be moderately interesting if he’s playing.
