Catcher/First Base, High End Spend

Gary Sanchez, $4,100

.429/.429/.571 with 0 HR in 7 at-bats

The Yankees catcher still isn’t hitting well to start the season but facing off against a lefty could help jumpstart him. He’s usually smacking southpaws around with career numbers that include a .892 OPS, .322 ISO, and a .371 wOBA.

In two starts so far, Francisco Liriano is giving up a fly ball over 40 percent of the time and his hard contact rate given up is also over 44 percent. That could spell trouble for the Tigers and a big day for the Bronx Bombers.

Also Consider – Freddie Freeman, $4,500

Mid-Range

Yadier Molina, $3,700

.385/.405/.692 with 3 HR in 39 at-bats

The grizzled veteran catcher has found his power swing early in the season, hitting five homer already. He’s got a really good shot at hitting one again today and while I’m not sure a full Cardinals stack is in order, I may not talk you out of it either. Molina has a good track record against Bailey and he’s gotten lucky with his results so far. He’s a pitcher giving up fly balls and hard contact at over 40 percent of the time.

Eventually, that is going to catch up with a pitcher and he’s going to get destroyed. Molina could be a very big part of that today, even if the price tag is a touch expensive.

Also Consider – Justin Your, $2,800

Value

Christian Vazquez, $2,100

.417/.417/.500 with 0 HR in 12 at-bats

This is the definition of a punt play and even though the Red Sox offense is crushing any pitcher in their path at the moment, I’m not sure how much I want to attack Dylan Bundy. He’s off to a great start but Vazquez his hit him pretty well. It’s kind of the sam logic as yesterday. He’s in the Red Sox offense and at near minimum price.

There has to be at least mild interest. If he’s not in the lineup, Sandy Leon is the same exact price and has also seen his share of success against the Baltimore starter.

Also Consider – Martin Maldonado, $2,500
