Second Base, High End Spend

Ozzie Albies, $4,200

.000/.500/.000 with 0 HR in 2 at-bats

He might be on the wrong side of his splits to some extent, but Albies is one of the hottest hitters in baseball right now for fantasy. Not only is he coming of a 44 point outing yesterday, the last 14 games have been fantastic. He’s put up four zeroes, but every other game has been at least 12 FanDuel points.

There’s also something to be said for opposing pitcher Tyler Chatwood getting ground balls and limiting hard contact, because he’s been good at that so far. He’s also extremely wild with over 5 walks per nine in 2018. Albies should be on base at least a couple times at the rate he’s going.

Also Consider – Ian Kinsler, $3,700

Mid-Range

Howie Kendrick, $3,000

.222/.300/.222 with 0 HR in 9 at-bats

The Nationals second baseman has started off on fire, hitting for a .319 average. He’s never going to bring you a ton of power but he has a very good track record against lefties, including a .777 OPS and a .337 wOBA.

For his part, Rockies starter Tyler Anderson is giving up a fly ball or a line drive almost 80 percent of the time. He might be limiting hard contact to just a 25.6 percent rate, but it’s only a matter of time before that number starts to climb. Kendrick is right in that sweet spot when there’s still room for profit.

Also Consider – Starlin Castro, $2,900

Value

Kolten Wong, $2,300

.500/.625/.833 with 0 HR in 12 at-bats

Wong got the day off Saturday so he should be in the lineup today. If he is, he deserves consideration as a punt play to fit in your ace of choice. Homer Bailey has gotten destroyed by the Cardinals over his career and that’s with 125 at-bats.

That’s far from a small sample size and while Wong might not bring a very high ceiling, he doesn’t need to score a ton of points to justify himself today. Wong hit very well against righties last year and I just refuse to buy into the fact that Bailey is a good pitcher. He’s going to get bit sooner or later.
