Third Base, High End Spend

Kris Bryant, $5,200

.214/.267/.357 with 0 HR in 14 at-bats

Bryant has been absolutely studly so far in 2018 and Adam Wainwright is no longer a good pitcher. Frankly, it can be a little bit of a bummer to see a pitcher like him struggling along on the downside of his career. However, if he keeps taking the mound, I’m going to keep targeting him. Bryant is hitting basically every pitch at above a league average rating in 2018. He’s carrying the Cubbies offense and in a positive matchup, despite what the BvP says. With no super expensive pitchers on this sltae, it’s at least possible to pay this high price for the Cubs best player.

Also Consider – Matt Chapman, $4,400

Mid-Range

Maikel Franco, $3,100

.333/.355/.400 with 0 HR in 30 at-bats

Franco has been a popular player in this space so far this year. Part of that is he started off pretty well. Part of it is manager Gabe Kapler has a huge rotation to work through, so Franco has zeroes in his column to keep the price reasonable. Now he gets to square off against a pitcher that is giving up fly balls over 50 percent of the time and giving up hard contact over 35 percent of the time. For his part, Franco is hitting a fly ball 51.7 percent of the time, even though the hard contact hasn’t followed. It’s just a matter of time and Teheran could be giving up some long balls tonight.

Also Consider – Colin Moran, $2,900

Value

Yolmer Sanchez, $2,700

N/A

I would bet not many people will play Sanchez tonight. Heck, I’m not 100 percent sure the White Sox are a real team anymore. They’ve gotten postponed for about four days now so hopefully they can still hit the ball. Joking aside, Sanchez has been ripping up righties so far in 2018. His average sits at .323, his OPS is .904 and his wOBA is .373. A’s starter Daniel Mengden is giving up a fly ball or a line drive at around a 65 percent clip with a 39.7 hard contact rate. Those numbers are pretty attractive for a player whose price tag is only $2,700. The game is also in Oakland so the postponement risk is quite minimal.
