FanDuel Lineup and picks for Wednesday, April 18th
Shortstop, High End Spend
Early
Manny Machado, $4,500
.500/.400/.750 with 0 HR in 4 at-bats
Not only is Machado far and away the highest slurred option at his position, he’s in the running for being one of the top hitters on the four game slate. His numbers against lefties so far this season are insanely high. Coming into this game, he’s got a .313 average, 1.290 OPS, and a .537 wOBA. I can’t say enough to make sure you play Machado today. He’s likely my number one play of the four game slate.
Main
Trea Turner, $4,300
.200/.273/.300 with 0 HR in 10 at-bats
Don’t look now, but Turner is starting to heat up a little bit. He’s hit at least nine FanDuel points in five straight and six of his last eight. Turner has been feasting on left handed pitching so far with a .917 OPS and a .420 wOBA. This are pretty darn good numbers for someone who isn’t a big power hitter. Turner has a legit shot at yet another double digit effort tonight.
Mid-Range
Early
There is no middle class of shortstops on the day slate. Trevor Story isn’t interesting on the road vs a righty pitcher.
Main
Freddy Galvis, $3,300
.556/.556/1.000 with 1 HR in 9 at-bats
This is a perfect spot for Galvis as the price is reasonable and Kenta Maeda has not been pitching well against left-handed hitters so far this year, giving up a .368 average and a .381 wOBA. Galvis isn’t a power hitter by any stretch of the imagination and there is a question of how well the Padres can hit Maeda overall. Regardless, Galvis is a solid play with a relatively safe floor.
Value
Early
Jordy Mercer, $2,500
.333/.333/.333 with 0 HR in 6 at-bats
You likely won’t need too much salary relief today but the cheaper Bucco bats are appealing if you need to go that route. Freeland is an odd pitcher for the Rockies as he has been worse when he’s away from Coors Field so far in his career. Mercer doesn’t have a very high ceiling but he’s a way to get to all the other high end bats that do carry a high ceiling. Freeland hasn’t done well against righty bats in his career and that shouldn’t change today.
Main
Unless someone pops up on the lineup cards, shortstop seems pretty mediocre tonight. We’ll have to see how the lower end of the position evolves through the day.
