Wild vs. Jets Game 4: Highlights, final score and more
The Winnipeg Jets shut out the Wild in Minnesota. They will now look to close out the series at home in Game 5.
The Minnesota Wild were dealt a big blow before this game even started, learning that their leading playoff scorer, Zach Parise, would no longer be available after suffering a broken sternum in Game 3. They opened the game motivated, but found themselves down early after the first of two Mark Scheifele goals.
The two teams would go on to trade scoring chances until late in the third period, when Scheifele iced the game with an empty net goal. Both goaltenders were fantastic in this one. Connor Hellebuyck posted his first playoff shut out with 30 saves. Devan Dubnyk was nothing short of fantastic himself, posting 26 saves. Unfortunately for him, it was not enough.
A scary moment occurred late in the first period when Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey crosschecked Eric Staal in the ear. Read more about that here. Though he didn’t garner a penalty on the play, Morrissey will no doubt be receiving a call from the league office about this one. Expect him to miss multiple games.
Three stars
3. Mark Scheifele
Scheifele was fantastic once again for the Jets. He shows a poise and veteran leadership that is almost unheard of from a 25-year-old. This Jets team is in good hands as long as Scheifele is on the ice. Look for him to continue to dominate opposing teams in what will likely be a long playoff run for the Jets.
2. Devan Dubnyk
Even though the Wild are down three games to one, it is not the fault of Dubnyk. The Wild goalie has been nothing short of incredible in this series. He’s done everything to keep his team in each game, including the two in Winnipeg where he faced double the shots that Hellebuyck saw.
1. Connor Hellebuyck
Posting his first career playoff shut out on Tuesday after getting rocked for six goals in the previous game was a statement for Hellebuyck. He proved that Game 3 was an anomaly and that he is deserving of the Vezina Trophy that he found out he was a finalist for on Tuesday.
