The Washington Capitals tied their series with the Columbus Blue Jackets up 2-2 in Game 4 before heading back to Washington, D.C., for Game 5.

4. 19. Final. 1. 113

The Washington Capitals and Columbus Blue Jackets know that their fans love getting bonus hockey in the postseason, but Washington decided that it wanted to win one in regulation for once in this series.

That’s exactly what the Capitals did Thursday night when they defeated the Blue Jackets 4-1 to take their first regulation win in this postseason.

To make the icing on the cake even sweeter, the Capitals scored their fourth and final goal of the game on an empty-netter from Evgeny Kuznetsovwith with 2:19 left.

Now the Capitals get to go back home for Game 5 and try to get their first home win of this series.

Three Stars

3. Boone Jenner: The Blue Jackets may have lost this one, but Jenner tried his best — he just couldn’t get past Braden Holtby. Jenner had four shots on goal, which led Columbus, and earned the team’s only goal of the night.

2. Braden Holtby: Speaking of Holtby, he’s proving that he deserves to keep the starting job in net for the rest of the postseason. Seemingly back to Vezina Trophy form, Holtby saved 22 of 23 shots for a terrific 95.7 save percentage.

1. Alex Ovechkin: The day that Ovechkin stops playing hockey is going to be a sad day, indeed, for fans of the game. He was back on his game tonight, setting a new franchise record for postseason goals, with 49. Hard to imagine anyone breaks that one anytime soon.
