FanDuel Lineup and Picks for Thursday, April 19th
Catcher/First Base, High End Spend
Paul Goldschmidt, $4,100
.500/.500/1.250 with 1 HR in 4 at-bats
Frankly put, if you’re not playing Goldy tonight and you don’t cash, that’s going to be your own fault. He’s at home and draws a mediocre lefty who doesn’t strike people out. For his career, Ty Blach gives up a .285 average and a .344 wOBA to right handed hitters. Goldschmidt is absolute money against lefties in his career at home. The eye-popping numbers include a .342 average, 1.111 OPS, and a .458 wOBA. Even though things can change through the day, I can’t imagine a scenario where Im’ not playing Goldschmidt tonight.
Also Consider – Hanley Ramirez, $3,700
Mid-Range
Josh Bell, $3,300
.500/.611/1.071 with 2 HR in 14 at-bats
The Bucco first baseman is also very interesting tonight against old division nemesis Jake Arrieta. The BvP data is certainly in his favor, if that’s your sort of thing. Arrieta also hasn’t looked too sharp yet either and Bell could have a slightly higher floor because he typically has a good eye. Bell is on the right side of his splits and plays in a park that plays very well for home runs for lefty batters. Bell carries a career OPS of .805 and a wOBA of .343 in his career as a lefty hitter. It could easily be a scenario where I play both Bell and Goldy tonight.
Also Consider – Mitch Moreland, $2,700
Value
Jesus Aguilar, $2,400
1.000/1.000/1.500 with 0 HR in 2 at-bats
Anytime the Brewers draw a lefty on the mound, Aguilar is going to be on the radar. The strikeout rate is always going to be high with him but if he makes contact with the ball, the results are likely to be pretty good. His career numbers against lefties are pretty good with a .288 average, .840 OPS, and a .359 wOBA. Those numbers are fantastic for a player at this price point and Aguilar is certainly in play if you don’t have the money or desire to play Goldy and Bell.
