Second Base, High End Spend

Jed Lowrie, $4,000

.310/.333/.517 with 0 HR in 29 at-bats

Lowrie is a legitimate MVP candidate to this point in the season and he gets to matchup against Doug Fister tonight. Fister has always had trouble with lefty hitters until this season, when he’s held them to a .292 wOBA in 25 at-bats. His past couple of seasons have looked far worse and Lowrie has been mauling right-handers so far in 2018 with an average of .345, an OPS well over 1.000 and a wOBA of .460. Even though Fister has kept the ball on the ground 70 percent of the time to lefties so far, his hard hit rate is closing in on 60 percent. Those balls are going to start doing damage sooner rather than later.

Also Consider – Asdrubal Cabrera, $4,000

Mid-Range

Jonathan Villar, $3,000

.250/.308/.667 with 1 HR in 12 at-bats

Villar isn’t always a favorite target because he could just as easily go 0-4 with three strikeouts. When he gets a pitcher like Jason Hammel, he becomes more interesting because Hammel isn’t striking out a ton of batters. He does have good numbers against lefty hitters so far this year but that isn’t the case through his career. Villar has a fine track record against Hammel and could always steal a bag or two to pay off this price.

Also Consider – Joey Wendle, $3,100

Value

Brock Holt, $2,500

.125/.300/.125 with 0 HR in 8 at-bats

It’s a little funny that Holt is part of a very good offense, has been producing quite well for his price point and yet his price really doesn’t move. Holt hasn’t put up a zero since April 8 and he’s still just $2,500. The Red Sox draw Aaron Sanchez, who is a quality pitcher. However, lefty hitters have been roughing him up in 2018. Sanchez is giving up a .364 average, .974 OPS and a .427 wOBA so far. That’s fits nicely into Holt’s wheelhouse and again, if you’re looking for Kershaw, this is a solid way to get there.
