The SEC has plenty of “blue bloods” throughout their conference. The LSU Tigers are yet another strong program filled with a rich history and some of the most passionate fans across all of college football.

Founded in 1893, the Tigers have played well over a century and have built a growing tradition ever since. They officially moved into Tiger Stadium in 1924 and the stadium holds a weekly capacity of over 100,000 people.

A growing theme among the “blue bloods” programs is a large stadium. To be able to fill a stadium that holds over 100,000 people shows just how passionate and large the fan base is.

LSU has won three national championships to their credit and even if they would like to forget it now, once had Nick Saban lead their program to a couple of titles. Billy Cannon is their lone Heisman award winner but helped put the program on the map in 1959 with an amazing season at the halfback position.

Great traditions such as “Jersey No. 18” and that they have labeled themselves as “DBU” define the Tigers to this day. Of course, tying in the strong French culture with Louisiana has become a big part of many slogans and cheers that define their history as well.

As for rivalries, much like Auburn, LSU’s big one is with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Every year when they meet on the gridiron, it’s a personal affair and one that typically ends in a close game. The two even met for a National Championship in the 2011 season.
