Pablo Sandoval threw a no-hitter against the Dodgers (kinda sorta, but still)

Pablo Sandoval, who is not a pitcher by trade, threw a scoreless inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers which means he’s the greatest pitcher ever.

Remember this day and remember it well. April 28th will go down in history as the day a Panda — the Panda — tossed a no-hitter against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Some clarification: an actual Panda did not throw a no-hitter, and said no-hitter is being condensed to a single inning. However, you just had an image of a panda throwing heat against the Dodgers, which means we’re all winners here.

What actually happened is not that far off from being as fantastical. Pablo Sandoval, the San Francisco Giants third baseman, was brought in as an emergency pitcher on Saturday (because the Giants were getting obliterated 15-6) and dealt a perfect inning.

Sandoval, who is nicknamed Panda, got out of his half-inning of work without giving up a hit, which is amazing on so many levels.

He’s not a pitcher by trade

Sandoval is a Giants legend who helped the team win a couple of World Series titles earlier this decade. His nickname is one that Giants fans endearingly gave him during his first stint with the team, and he continues to pay them back.

The Dodgers have World Series-caliber batting prowess

Lest we forget the Los Angeles Dodgers were very close to winning the World Series last year. For a period of time, they looked poised to chase the Seattle Mariners record of 116-wins in a season. Much of that has to do with their Murder’s Row mentality, boasting a lineup of current and future batting stars.

It was a small sample size, but none of them could get a hit off a guy whose day job is playing next to the mound, not on it.

San Francisco just took a giant lead in the LA-SF rivalry

Don’t gloss over the fact that beyond being hilarious, this little incident is going to be logged away as an amazing moment in the Dodgers-Giants rivalry. It would have been funny no matter what, but against the backdrop of a heated rivalry like the one between these two teams, the hilarity is heightened.

Can we circle back to the part where Pablo Sandoval is not a pitcher?

This can’t be stressed enough. He plays third base on a day-to-day basis.

Good job, Dodgers. Way to give it your best.
