Shortstop, High End Spend

Manny Machado, $4,600

.000/.000/.000 with 0 HR in 4 at-bats

All the same reasons we were interested in Danny Valencia lineup for Manny Machado. The big difference is Machado is one of the best players in the game and his numbers against lefty pitching this year are flat out massive. He’s carrying a .348 average, a 1.226 OPS, a .478 ISO and a .511 wOBA. Those are eye-popping numbers and Daniel Norris isn’t a scary matchup as a pitcher. Machado continues to be great spots every single night and he’s staying hot. Eight of his last 10 games have been nine FanDuel points or (usually much) more. Machado is showing why he deserves a fat new contract in the off-season and we can ride the wave with him.

Also Consider: Jean Segura, $3,800

Mid-Range

Xander Bogaerts, $3,300

.188/.278/.313 with 0 HR in 16 at-bats

This is a spot where I have to be a little critical of FanDuel with their pricing. I totally understand it’s difficult to price every player correctly every day, but what in the world is this price for Bogaerts? It’s such a cheap price that it feels like a trap to play him. He’s hit double digit FanDuel points since his return from an injured ankle and he’s smashing righty pitching in 2018. So far, he’s tallied a .419 average, 1.261 OPS and a .532 wOBA. His BABIP is insanely high which suggests some regression. Still, $3,300 is way too cheap for Bogaerts today. It’s hard to not lock him in.

Also Consider: I’d suggest not straying from Bogaerts but if you want to, go with Dansby Swanson at $3,600.

Value

Aledmys Diaz, $2,300

.333/.333/.333 with 0 HR in 3 at-bats

Continuing the theme from other positions, if you hit right-handed and are facing Martin Perez on Sunday, you’re going to be worth a look in a lineup. This is probably my least favorite of the Blue Jays bats on the day but he does save you some serious money to spend up elsewhere. There’s no metrics on the side of Diaz that stand out. This is legitimately just an attack on Perez with the bats he struggles with the most.
