Philadelphia Flyers: Scott Hartnell

Scotty Hartnell’s beard is one of the most disgusting but impressive beards in NHL history. It grows at a rapid pace, it is wild, it is thick and no one can tell where it starts and where it ends. When you see Hartnell on a long playoff run, it looks as though his beard joins his chest hair.

Many of the players on this list sport the ginger beard, but Hartnell’s might take the cake. Scotty Hartnell played seven seasons with the Flyers, six of which included postseason play. In each instance, the Flyers favorite would grow his bushy red beard.

Hartnell, a.k.a. Bird Dogg, is an NHL poker champion. He won a pokerstars.net charity poker tournament in 2009, beating out Roberto Luongo in the final. He took his beard growing one step further during the 2012-13 campaign when he grew a “lockout beard” during the NHL lockout, which lasted four months.

Hartnell, with his full playoff beard and hair, closely resembles an actual wild animal. His beard will go down in history as one of, if not the greatest of all time.
