Calgary Flames: Lanny McDonald

Lanny McDonald has one of the most iconic looks in NHL history. McDonald kicked-off his storied career playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs before being traded to the Colorado Rockies then the Calgary Flames, where he finished his career (and won a Stanley Cup). McDonald was so popular among Maple Leafs fans that his trade was met with protest outside Maple Leaf Gardens.

One thing the fans would never protest about McDonald is his kick-ass moustache (great transition!). McDonald’s iconic thick, curled ‘stache was famous throughout the NHL community. As was his bright red playoff beard during the Flames 1988-89 Stanley Cup run.

We’ve all seen the iconic photograph of McDonald holding the cup, a full red beard rounding out his usual mustachioed face. It’s hockey folklore. Lanny was a true beauty and his look was second to none. His career was not-too-shabby either. McDonald racked up 1,006 points in 1,111 games over an 18-year career, culminating with the aforementioned Stanley Cup in his final year with the Calgary Flames. What better way to go out than on top, in both the NHL and looking like a stud.

It’s also worth noting that McDonald shares his hometown of Hanna, Alberta with rock n’ roll legends Nickelback. Nothing but beauties from Hanna.
