Third Base, High End Spend

Alex Bregman, $3,900

1.000/1.000/1.000 with 0 HR in 1 at-bat

Typically, Bregman is more in play when there’s a lefty on the mound. However, there’s a few factors that play into Bregman’s favor tonight. First, we already discussed Sonny Gray’s struggles against righties so far this year. Secondly, the Astros offense has been rolling these past few days and when they get hot, they’re tough to stop. Lastly, Bregman has shown significant growth against righties so far this year. He’s cut down on his strikeouts and raised his average, meaning the OPS and wOBA are both up as well. Some might head to Kris Bryant if Freeland pitches but it’s worth noting he hasn’t looked quite right after being hit in the head with a pitch last week.

Also Consider – Nolan Arenado, $4,300

Mid-Range

Daniel Robertson, $3,300

N/A

It’s always nice when the Tampa Bay Rays are in a good spot for a daily play because they are almost never pricey. Robertson is another great way to attack Jordan Zimmermann and even though it’s a righty on righty matchup, Robertson has been smoking righty pitching in 2018. He’s hitting .361 with a 1.000 OPS and a .445 wOBA. If his uniform had a different name on the front or the back, Robertson would be more expensive in this spot. The track record isn’t super long but Robertson is only 24 years old. There’s no reason to think he couldn’t have an improving skill set and Zimmermann is an awful pitcher. The Rays should have their way with him this evening.

Also Consider – Evan Longoria, $3,000

Value

Just like second base, it’s seemingly a little difficult to find a crazy good value play at the third base slot. Perhaps the only other option would be Matt Duffy at $2,900 who is a little more expensive than our normal value play. We’ll need to check to see where Duffy is batting in the order and maybe someone else pops up on the lineup cards closer to lock tomorrow.
