PHILADELPHIA, PA – APRIL 21: Rhys Hoskins #17 of the Philadelphia Phillies high fives his teammates in the dugout after scoring a run in the bottom of the eighth inning against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Citizens Bank Park on April 21, 2018 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Outfielder, High End Spend

Rhys Hoskins, $4,500

.750/.700/2.000 with 3 HR in 8 at-bats

Even though it’s a small sample, the BvP data here does at least catch your eye a little bit. When you dig a little deeper, it makes sense that Hoskins has taken Straily deep multiple times because Straily is a fly ball pitcher. His rate was up at 45.9 percent last season and is line with his career rate. Hoskins has put 50 percent of his batted balls into the air and is making hard contact at a 32.8 percent clip. The Miami ball park is a pitcher’s haven but Hoskins has the raw power to leave any park ever built. I’m not that interested in a lot of Phillies because Straily did strikeout plenty in 2017 and the Phillies carry a high K/9 against righties in 2018. Hoskins is a great play on his own.

Also Consider – Aaron Judge, $5,300, Bryce Harper, $4,600 and Teoscar Hernandez, $3,800

Mid-Range

Ryan Braun, $3,300

.429/.500/1.143 with 1 HR in 7 at-bats

There’s a lefty on the mound against the Brewers and they’re playing in one of the only other parks in the league that is as hitter friendly as Miller Park in Great American Ball Park. It plays as a launching pad and Braun is likely going to be chalk due to his price point and facing a lefty. Brauns numbers in his career vs lefties include a .330 average, 1.014 OPS and a .426 wOBA. Now, it’s worth noting that all those numbers have taken a significant nosedive the past two seasons. It’s not a small sample size either as those numbers span 135 plate appearances. Even though he’s not as good as he used to be, Braun is still firmly in play because Brandon Finnegan has been very poor to start the season. Braun should at least be able to walk and get a hit even if he doesn’t produce a monster day.

Also Consider – Andrew McCutchen, $3,400, Denard Span, $3,300 and Albert Almora, $2,900(if it’s Freeland on the mound, he’s almost a lock)

Value

Alex Verdugo, $2,000

N/A

The young buck for the Dodgers carries a little bit of interest tonight for a few reasons. Keeping in mind that we have under 30 plate appearances at the major league level for Verdugo, he’s a fairly disciplined hitter because he’s only swinging at pitches outside the strike zone under 20 percent of the time. He’s bare minimum price and any time a player like that could produce, he’s worth looking at for the savings. Verdugo is a highly regarded prospect who’s a lefty batter, and lefties have been Zack Greinke’s kryptonite so far. He’s surrendering a .300 average, .903 OPS and a .379 wOBA to the handedness. Greinke is also giving up hard hit balls at a 37.5 percent clip. Verdugo is quietly in a good spot for how limited his track record is.

Also Consider – Austin Jackson, $2,000 and Jackie Bradley, $2,400
