Collecting monochromatic items in an array of colors is a popular trend, and New Era is making sure fans of MLB and the NBA don’t get left out.

One of the most powerful abilities of Homo sapiens comes courtesy of the cones in our retinas, which reflect certain lengths in the wide spectrum of light. That allows us to distinguish colors. Our species has capitalized on that ability in many ways, including fashion. Bright, vivid colors seemingly always make an impression and collecting similar items in different colors is a popular trend. Thanks to New Era, MLB and NBA fans can take part in that trend.

On Tuesday, May 1, the “Color Prism Pack” line of New Era hats dropped at Lids stores and Lids.com. It’s a collection of monochromatic 59FIFTY hats that are available in bright tones of green, navy, orange, purple, red, royal blue and yellow. The cap, team logo, league logo, New Era flag and visor sticker are all encompassed in the color.

With hats in the full complement of colors available for all 60 MLB and NBA franchises, fans can endeavor to “complete the rainbow” by acquiring all seven shades of cap in their teams’ styles. It’s a concept that MLB and NBA fans who are collectors are already familiar with in another industry.

Sports trading cards manufacturers, like Panini and Topps, have been putting out parallel cards endued in different colors for years. Topps has played on this concept in its baseball card products such as Bowman while Panini has done something similar with a basketball card set of theirs, which oddly enough is also named Prizm. With those products, collectors have sought to put together “rainbows” of every shade of certain players’ cards. New Era makes putting together the rainbow of hats much easier, as many of those Prizms and Refractors that Panini and Topps produces are quite rare.

The cones in our eyes are awesome, as is the fun of the chase and putting together a full collection of items. New Era has brought all those elements to fans of MLB and the NBA and thanks to Lids, completing the rainbow with eye-catching hats is pretty easy.
