4. Lamar Jackson – Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens surprised some people by trading back into the first round to grab Lamar Jackson with the No. 32 pick. His selection puts incumbent quarterback Joe Flacco on notice about his future, but it likely won’t be much of a competition this season.

Jackson has load of athletic ability, but he’ll need to adjust to the speed of the NFL game. In particular, he has to learn to make better decisions in the pocket. Escaping on the edge was always an option for him at Louisville, but it’s a more dangerous and difficult proposition in the NFL.

The one reason he’s more likely to play this season than Allen is because the Ravens may choose to develop a small package for him in his rookie season. That would serve as a great way to get Jackson so meaningful snaps. It would also make the Baltimore offense much more difficult to prepare for.

In the end, Jackson is likely to get a little time on the playing field this year, but next year is where the real competition between he and Flacco will begin. As soon as Jackson takes the job the Baltimore offense is going to become much more dynamic.
