Isaiah Wynn – New England Patriots (Pick #23)

Oh look, another great draft pick by the New England Patriots at the back of round one. A pick before the Panthers took Moore, Bill Belichick and company grabbed another stand out offensive lineman. Georgia tackle Isaiah Wynn was an underrated player throughout the process and may make teams look foolish when he’s dominating the league.

A three year starter at Georgia, Wynn offers versatility to play both tackle and guard. Most project him inside to guard given his height and stout build. Certain people have suggested that the Patriots plan to use him as a tackle despite that. It is rare for a tackle to be only 6-foot-3 but Wynn’s 33 3/8″ arms make up for that.

At Georgia he dealt with the SEC’s best pass rushers and protected his freshman quarterback’s blindside perfectly. While inside at guard his sophomore and junior season, he showed that compact build was powerful yet agile. As one of the most technically sound players, he will fit in perfectly in New England.

The Patriots lost their starting left tackle in Nate Solder to free agency. Wynn could slide right into that spot and handle it fine. With Tom Brady and that offense getting the ball out quick, the size issue is slightly diminished. Wynn has Pro Bowl potential regardless of where he lines up and New England was smart to grab him at pick 23.
