2018 NBA Mock Draft: Knicks go big with Mo Bamba
The Suns named Jazz assistant Igor Kokoskov their new head coach Wednesday in a move that rewards years of hard work on the part of Kokoskov and brings the NBA into a new era.
Kokoskov is the first NBA head coach in league history to be born and raised outside North America. He brings with him a culture of discipline and creativity that should provide structure and productivity for the young Suns. It also makes it a heck of a lot more likely that Phoenix drafts Doncic should they have the opportunity to do so.
In a press release from the Suns Wednesday, general manager Ryan McDonough said, “Igor has been a pioneer throughout his basketball career and he brings a wealth of high level coaching experience to our club… his most recent head coaching stint includes leading the Slovenian national team to the 2017 EuroBasket title… Igor’s teams have always had a player development focus, a creative style of play and a track record of success.”

The Suns have a bunch of parts that for most of the 2017-18 season looked like they may never fit together. Outside the occasional exhilarating Devin Booker performance, the Suns were hapless. Bringing Kokoskov and his grinding system that rewards active players with open shots into Phoenix and Doncic in to run it would be a spectacular overhaul in the span of a couple months.
