FanDuel Lineup and Picks for Friday, May 4
Rockies at Mets
Rockies Probable Pitcher – German Marquez, RHP
5.14 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 8.68 K/9
Vs LHH – .210 average, .260 wOBA and 27.7 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .291 average, .407 wOBA and 31.6 hard contact rate
Marquez is one of those pitchers that has exhibited reverse splits this year even though they’re close through the course of his career. It’s a little odd to look at some of the stats Marquez has put out. His HR/FB rate, ground ball rate and fly ball rate are all either in line for his career or better. His hard contact is down as well. I could be persuaded to take a chance in GPP’s but Marquez certainly isn’t a staple in any lineup. The Mets are in some kind of offensive funk right now, having scored two or fewer runs in five straight games including two shutouts.
Mets Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Yoenis Cespedes, Todd Frazier
Secondary Options – Asdrubal Cabrera, Michael Conforto
Mets Probable Pitcher – Zack Wheeler, RHP
4.09 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 8.59 K/9
Vs LHH – .233 average, .273 wOBA and 33.3 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .250 average, .311 wOBA and 23.4 hard contact rate
Wheeler has been up and down in his four starts in 2018. He’s had two that were basically useless and two that he went over 40 points. It’s worth noting that the Colorado offense does not travel well at all. On the road so far this season against righties, the Rockies rank 29th in average, 29th in OPS and 29th in wOBA to go along with a hefty 23.3 percent strikeout rate. All of those numbers are actually better after they waxed Cubs starter Yu Darvish on Tuesday. It’s not a cash play, but Wheeler is firmly in play as a GPP option at just $6,100.
Rockies Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Charlie Blackmon
Secondary Options – Nolan Arenado, David Dahl
Home Run Pick – Todd Frazier
Marlins at Reds
Marlins Probable Starter – Wei-Yin Chen, LHP
*All Stats are just one start* 1.69 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 5.06 K/9
Vs LHH – .200 average, .411 wOBA and 25.0 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .214 average, .324 wOBA and 50.0 hard contact rate
Chen is still working his way back after missing almost the whole first month of the season. He looked fine in his first start but he could have issues in this one. Over the past two seasons for Che, he’s been a fly ball pitcher to right handed hitters and this isn’t the park to try and live like that. I want nothing to do with Chen in any format and could wind up with a Red or two in the final lineup.
Reds Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Eugenio Suarez, Tucker Barnhart, Jose Peraza
Secondary Options – Joey Votto, Adam Duvall
Reds Probable Starter – Sal Romano, RHP
4.65 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 4.94 K/9
Vs LHH – .279 average, .366 wOBA and 30.2 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .226 average, .305 wOBA and 32.1 hard contact rate
I’ll be honest, I thought Romano’s metrics would look far worse than they do. I’m certainly not playing him but I’ll be a little judicious with the Marlins bats. This game could get wildly out of hand but I’d be more interested in the Reds offense. Romano may not be a good pitcher but it is the Marlins offense. Only a couple bats should really scare him.
Marlins Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Justin Bour, Derek Dietrich
Secondary Options – J.T. Realmuto, Starlin Castro
Home Run Pick – Justin Bour
