FanDuel Lineup and Picks for Friday, May 4
Twins at White Sox
Twins Probable Starter – Jose Berrios, RHP
3.63 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 9.35 K/9
Vs LHH – .232 average, .285 wOBA and 30.2 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .164 average, .199 wOBA and 19.5 hard contact rate
Berrios has been hard to get a handle on this season. He’s gotten shelled a couple times, one of which was against the Yankees so that makes sense. He’s also shown a complete game shutout in Baltimore. He’s got all the talent in the world but hasn’t put it together consistently yet. The Chicago lineup isn’t the most imposing one on paper. The lefties they have aren’t very good and Berrios has shut righties down this year. If Yoan Moncada isn’t in the lineup for the White Sox, Berrios is a very interesting option tonight. I love his price at just $8,400.
White Sox Hitters to Target
Elite Options – None
Secondary Options – Yoan Moncada (if he plays), Jose Abreu
White Sox Probable Starter – Carson Fulmer, RHP
4.32 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 6.48 K/9
Vs LHH – .250 average, .308 wOBA and 35.3 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .237 average, .343 wOBA and 29.8 hard contact rate
Fulmer has been average through his 25 innings pitched so far this year and he’s got a good pedigree to back some of it up. The fly ball rate is very concerning at almost 50 percent and the Twins have power to take advantage of that. I can’t see myself playing Fulmer tonight and there’s a couple of Minnesota bats that could be in play. Logan Morrison is starting to heat up and is still really cheap. His fly ball and hard hit rate suggest home runs could be coming in bunches.
Twins Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Logan Morrison, Brian Dozier
Secondary Options – Joe Mauer, Eddie Rosario, Max Kepler
Home Run Pick – Logan Morrison
Tigers at Royals
Tigers Probable Starter – Francisco Liriano, LHP
3.38 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 6.44 K/9
Vs LHH – .040 average, .127 wOBA and 17.6 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .244 average, .344 wOBA and 36.9 hard contact rate
This equation is pretty simple. I’m not all that interested in Liriano to play him and I won’t play any lefty from the Royals. However, the righties are pretty interesting. Salvador Perez looks like he hasn’t missed a single inning and has been locked in since he got back from injury. Whit Merrifield is in play against any lefty out there and suddenly Jorge Soler looks like a real baseball player. He looked like a bust the past couple of seasons but has snapped out of it. He’s smashing lefties so far.
Royals Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Whit Merrifield, Jorge Soler
Secondary Options – Salvador Perez
Royals Probable Starter – Ian Kennedy, RHP
3.48 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 8.23 K/9
Vs LHH – .246 average, .317 wOBA and 35.6 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .288 average, .344 wOBA and 44.4 hard contact rate
I’ve stacked against Ian Kennedy a couple times this season and it hasn’t exactly worked out yet. All of his metrics scream that he’s a poor pitcher at this point. He’s giving up too much hard contact and too many fly balls to have an ERA under 3.50. Maybe tonight is the night that regression starts to come for Kennedy. The Tigers offense isn’t the monster it once was but there’s talent there to take Kennedy down tonight. I’m especially interested in the righty bats for the Tigers.
Tigers Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Jeimer Candelario, Miguel Cabrera, Nicholas Castellanos
Secondary Options – Leonys Martin
Home Run Pick – Jorge Soler
