WWE Backlash 2018: Preview and predictions
By Luke Norris
No Disqualification Match for the WWE Championship
AJ Styles (c) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura
So let me get this straight. AJ Styles defeats Shinsuke Nakamura in the WWE Championship Match at WrestleMania 34, which is obviously followed by a great heel turn from Nakamura. Okay, so even though he doesn’t necessarily deserve it, Shinsuke gets another shot at the title at Greatest Royal Rumble and still doesn’t win it with the double countout finish. So since he didn’t lose that match, he gets another one, but the stipulation added to this match isn’t a “No Countouts” stipulation but a “No Disqualification” one instead, which obviously plays right into the challenger’s wheelhouse seeing as he’s the one who’s handed out 874 low blows in the last month. Yeah, that makes a ton of sense.
Look, I’m certainly not going to complain about getting the opportunity to see two of the greatest wrestlers in the world battle it out for the biggest prize in the game, but give me something here to work with. Don’t just come out and tell me that we’re getting another WWE Championship Match. Have AJ Styles come out and demand this type of match so he can start fighting fire with fire. Tell me a story. Come on, WWE, you’re better than this.
Prediction: I predict that Shinsuke Nakamura will hit AJ Styles with a low blow in this match. What, too crazy of a call? Seriously, I do think that this will be another fun match between the two, and if done correctly, could be the best one we’ve seen from them thus far. I don’t think this is the last match we’ll see in this program, which leads me to believe that Shinsuke will finally use one of those low blows to win his first WWE Championship.
