With three games remaining, Southampton are in the relegation zone. The Saints are one point behind Swansea for the final survival spot. On Saturday, Everton host Southampton at Goodison Park. The Toffees are eighth with 48 points.
Everton defeated Huddersfield 2-0 last weekend. The Toffees have won two straight and picked up 14 points in their last seven games. Everton can put a serious dent in Southampton’s survival hopes if they win on Saturday. Cenk Tosun scored against Huddersfield and has five goals in his last eight games. Tosun will lead the line for Everton on Saturday, with Wayne Rooney slotting in behind him. The former England captain leads the Toffees with 10 goals this season.
Southampton defeated Bournemouth 2-1 last weekend. The win was the club’s first since Feb. 3 and helped them close in on the final safety spot. Dusan Tadic scored twice against the Cherries and is second on the team with six goals. Tadic and Charlie Austin will lead the attack against Everton. Austin leads the team with seven goals, including a brace earlier this season against Everton. The Saints need to be better defensively if they are going to stay up. Southampton have allowed 13 goals in their last six games.
