FanDuel Lineup and Picks for Tuesday, May 8
Marlins at Cubs
Marlins Probable Starter – Jose Urena, RHP
4.28 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 7.20 K/9
Vs LHH – .273 average, .349 wOBA and 45.3 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .244 average, .287 wOBA and 40.7 hard contact rate
Some of the metrics point to Urena actually being a decent starter but I’m definitely siding with the Cubbies on this one. Chicago hung five runs on him way back on Opening Day and that was in Miami. Life could be harder for Urena tonight in Wrigley Field. I prefer the lefties from the Cubs lineup but it’s also not a stretch to say righties could hurt Urena. This is a spot where you can stack the Cubs but should also be aware that Urena does have a high ground ball rate at 50.4 percent this year.
Cubs Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Anthony Rizzo, Kyle Schwarber
Secondary Options – Kris Bryant, Wilson Contreras, Javier Baez(if he plays)
Cubs Probable Starter – To Be Announced
As of this writing, the Cubs have not announced who will start in place of Yu Darvish. Stay tuned on Twitter as it gets updated.
It’s really too bad that the Marlins offense is such a trash pile or they would be a fun stack tonight. Regardless of who starts this game, they just aren’t consistent enough to want to stack up. I will likely just cross the majority this game off of my list when making lineups.
Marlins Hitters to Target
Elite Options – None
Secondary Options – Martin Prado, J.T. Realmuto, Starlin Castro(revenge game)
Home Run Pick – Anthony Rizzo
Pirates at White Sox
Pirates Probable Starter – Ivan Nova, RHP
4.01 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 7.38 K/9
Vs LHH – .276 average, .339 wOBA and 33.3 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .258 average, .307 wOBA and 33.3 hard contact rate
I’m still a little bit annoyed at Nova from his last start. I went out on a limb and didn’t play the Nationals against him, as he has spurts when he’s a solid pitcher in real life. He then proceeded to get mauled and gave up eight runs(five earned). What’s interesting with Nova is the extreme splits in his fly ball rate between righty and lefty batters. Righties are hitting fly balls at a 19.4 percent rate and lefties are all the way up at 42 percent. A cheap and quiet stack of the night might just be White Sox lefties. I’m likely not to go with a major stack, but one or two pieces can really help a lineup come together.
White Sox Hitters to Target
Elite Options – David Palka, Nicky Delmonico, Yolmer Sanchez
Secondary Options – Jose Abreu
White Sox Probable Starter – Lucas Giolito, RHP
7.03 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 5.06 K/9
Vs LHH – .241 average, .384 wOBA and 35.6 hard contact rate
Vs RHH – .215 average, .325 wOBA and 25.0 hard contact rate
I’d be lying if I said I knew what to make of this portion of the game. The range of outcomes seems pretty large for a couple reasons. First, Giolito is not playable. He’s had a rough season up until his last start, where he actually looked like a major leaguer. Second, the Pirates offense is so hit or miss it’s tough to bank on nightly production. It seems like you should either stack the Pirates and hope for a Giolito implosion(very possible) or just leave this side be and not curse at your lineup when the Pirates let you down. Trying to find just one or two Pirates bats on a given night is hard. The only one to deploy with relative confidence is Corey Dickerson.
Pirates Hitters to Target
Elite Options – Corey Dickerson
Secondary Options – Francisco Cervelli, Adam Frazier, Colin Moran
Home Run Pick – Yolmer Sanchez
