Nationals at Padres

Nationals Probable Starter – Jeremy Hellickson, RHP

3.00 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 5.57 K/9

Vs LHH – .286 average, .352 wOBA and 23.3 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .143 average, .172 wOBA and 33.3 hard contact rate

I truthfully have no idea how Jeremy Hellickson is being a productive pitcher in the majors in 2018. You would think an average player like that would be getting beat up more often than not, but here we are. I’m not really buying that he’s undergone some late career renaissance and I have some interest in some Padres bats tonight. They’re typically fairly cheap and tonight isn’t all that different. Travis Jankowski offers some great salary relief and is on the right side of the splits for Hellickson so far.

Padres Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Travis Jankowski, Eric Hosmer, Franchy Cordero

Secondary Options – Freddy Galvis

Padres Probable Starter – Clayton Richard, LHP

6.21 ERA, 1.73 WHIP and 7.65 K/9

Vs LHH – .278 average, .335 wOBA and 34.6 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .302 average, .395 wOBA and 44.7 hard contact rate

If you’ve been a reader of this column since the year started, you might remember what the drill is when the Nationals play a mediocre lefty. If this is your first time reading, welcome aboard! The drill when the Bats face a lefty is we check the price tag on Ryan Zimmerman and Anthony Rendon. Tonight, they check in at $3,000 and $3,400 respectively and that’s cheap for both, especially Rendon. You can play other Nationals if you like, but these would be my main two targets.

Nationals Hitters to Taget

Elite Options – Anthony Rendon, Ryan Zimmerman, Trea Turner

Secondary Options – Bryce Harper

Home Run Pick – Anthony Rendon

PHOENIX, AZ – MAY 01: Paul Goldschmidt #44 of the Arizona Diamondbacks bats against the Los Angeles Dodgers during the second inning of the MLB game at Chase Field on May 1, 2018 in Phoenix, Arizona. (Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)

Diamondbacks at Dodgers

Diamondbacks Probable Starter – Zack Godley, RHP

3.41 ERA, 1.40 WHIP and 8.67 K/9

Vs LHH – .242 average, .289 wOBA and 23.9 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .271 average, .317 wOBA and 39.6 hard contact rate

Godley hasn’t been quite the same pitcher as he was last season. His strikeouts are down and walks are up, yet his price is still at $8,800. He’s exceeded 40 points once all season but he’s basically the same price as Lance McCullers. You better believe I’m finding the extra $300 to play McCullers. Godley is a better pitcher in real life than he is in fantasy right now and he’s just too expensive in my eyes. However, I don’t have a ton of interest in many Dodgers hitters.

Dodgers Hitters to Target

Elite Options – None

Secondary Options – Cody Bellinger, Chris Taylor, Matt Kemp, Alex Verdugo

Dodgers Probable Starter – Rich Hill, LHP

6.00 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 9.60 K/9

Vs LHH – .286 average, .371 wOBA and 33.3 hard contact rate

Vs RHH – .289 average, .382 wOBA and 54.8 hard contact rate

Hill is finally due back from the disabled list after he didn’t pitch in Mexico because the Dodgers were concerned about the humidity and Hill’s hand. That’s a real thing that I had to type. Anyways, Hill hasn’t been good in his limited action this year and that might continue tonight. The Diamondbacks may not be the best offense around but they do have a few bats that can get the job done. Hill has the talent to log a good start but I don’t have any faith that it happens.

Diamondbacks Hitters to Target

Elite Options – Paul Goldschmidt, A.J. Pollock

Secondary Options – Steven Souza, Chris Owings

Home Run Pick – Paul Goldschmidt
