Chicago White Sox: Eloy Jimenez
The final prospect to mention, Eloy Jimenez was acquired by the Chicago White Sox last summer from their crosstown counterparts, the Cubs, as part of the deal that sent Jose Quintana to the Cubs.
Jimenez has established himself as second only to Vlad Guerrero, Jr. among hitting prospects in the entire game. I mentioned in my top 10 OF prospects for 2018 that many have compared Eloy to Manny Ramirez, I see a lot more comparison to Juan Gonzalez, who was able to generate plenty of contact and power to all fields, though unlike Ramirez (and like Eloy), he didn’t take a ton of walks in his approach yet kept his strikeout rate very manageable.
Similar to Gonzalez, Eloy is a passable defender in the outfield that will have flashes of brilliance, like we saw at the 2016 Futures game in San Diego. He’ll likely be a left fielder as a primary position, but he’s not going to be known for his defense.
Jimenez opened the season with an injury, but he’s been hitting very well since returning, hitting .303/.324/.591 with 4 doubles and 5 home runs over 16 games in AA. If would not surprise if he’s in AAA by mid-season, and he should see his first major league time in September this year.
