Milwaukee Brewers: Ryan Braun

The most common trade candidate the last few seasons for the Brewers, Braun has survived multiple managers, multiple GMs, and still, he is the constant for the team. Frankly, the biggest negative remains his involvement in his overturned PED suspension due to mishandling of a sample and the fallout on his personality from that.

A six-time All-Star, Rookie of the Year, MVP (finishing in the top 5 three times), a guy who’s hit .379/.422/.638 over his 15 career postseason games – really Braun has an impressive resume as he begins to wind down his career.

The big question will be how much longer Braun has in the tank. His Hall of Fame Monitor is above a likely MLB Hall of Famer, and he’s close on the other measures, but it’s simply a matter of whether he can get those additional numbers.

After playing at least 150 games every season from 2008-2012, Braun has had only one season of 140 games since then. As he is in his age-34 season in 2018, the likelihood that he will suddenly find MORE health is slim, so what may be best is for Brewers to find a taker for the final 2 years and $40 million guaranteed on his contract that is in the American League, where he can DH at least part-time.

That said, even playing the 126 games he’s averaged the last three seasons, he would finish his contract with career stats of 2,101 hits, 423 doubles, 53 triples, 374 home runs, 1,216 RBI, and 245 stolen bases. He also currently has a .301 career average. If he can finish with even a .290 average, 400 doubles, 350 home runs, and 250 stolen bases, he would join a group that includes just four players presently with that combination of numbers.
