1. Carson Wentz

Last year came to a crashing halt for Carson Wentz. He blew out his knee in Week 13, ending a season in which he was the favorite to be NFL MVP. Luckily for the Eagles, they still went on to win the Super Bowl, and now Wentz is hungry to prove he can still deliver.

At the time of his departure, Wentz was on the verge of nearly 4,000 yards and could’ve had 40 touchdowns if he had a spectacular finish in 2017. There’s one major caveat to Wentz being No. 1 on this list — his health.

A Week 1 return may seem unlikely to some, even those in the Eagles organization. However, according to Kevin Patra of NFL.com, Wentz believes he can return Week 1.

"“Rehab has been great. Obviously, it’s not fun. It’s quite the process. It can be painful some days,” he said. “But so far everything is going well. Where I’m at I’m very confident. My goal is to be ready Week 1.”"

If he does start Week 1 and returns to 2017 form, and the Eagles are still soaring (no pun intended), he’s the favorite to win MVP. If not, then the award could be up for grabs. So there are two determining factors for Wentz in the 2018 MVP race, health and as a result when he begins his season.
