Average drivers (between $9,000 and $10,500)

Clint Bowyer ($10,200) – Should be able to race his way toward the front from his starting spot back in the 30s, given what we’ve seen from him so far this year. That prospect of extra points makes him more attractive than other drivers near him in salary.

Matt Kenseth ($9,600) – Like Bowyer, he’s starting toward the back, but the big difference is that Kenseth is in his first race back since semi-retirement and has to get comfortable with a new team. Despite that, his salary of under $10K makes him less risky than he might first seem, and it’s doubtful he’ll wreck out of his own doing.

Daniel Suarez ($9,500) – Quietly turning into a top-10 machine, and coming off his best oval finish in his Cup Series career. Seems like a solid play for the price with the potential to be even better than that.

Ricky Stenhouse Jr. ($9,000) – Sure, he’s a restrictor plate specialist, but he’s been showing more speed lately as a wider variety of tracks, and he’s been gradually improving at Kansas Speedway, finishing 13th and 11th in this race the last two season. If you need to save a few bucks in this tier, you could definitely do worse.
