Bargain drivers (salary below $9,000)

William Byron ($8,600) – While the NASCAR world waits for Byron to show some of the form that made him so electric in the XFINITY Series, the youngster is dependably in the top 20 most weeks. His lone top-10 finish came at an intermediate track, Texas, so it’s not hard to imagine him getting another one at Kansas.

Ryan Newman ($8,400) – Maybe a tad more expensive than we’d like considering his seeming lack of upside, but Newman figures to be inside the top 20 all day and not get lapped, so can be counted on as a safe if unexciting pick as long as he can avoid getting into a wreck.

Chris Buescher ($6,800) – No, we don’t expect him to finish in the top 10, but his car definitely has speed since he was 10th or better in both practice and qualifying. Sometimes it’s best not to overthink your cheapest pick, and starting Buescher would definitely be in that vein.

Matt DiBenedetto ($5,800) – Hard to know what he’ll show in the race with no qualifying run, and could just as easily be lapped as move up. Still, was faster in practice than the likes of Kenseth and the Dillon brothers, so if you’ve got to go super cheap for your last spot, he’s viable.
