Bryce Harper

Bryce Harper’s goal was to Make Baseball Great Again. It seemed like a fun gesture at the time, but it turned a lot of people against him. But the Harper hate extends beyond his desire to cash in off Donald Trump.

Harper was on the cover of Sports Illustrated at 16, which didn’t endear him to his peers. That sounds more like a Sports Illustrated problem than a Bryce Harper problem. But Harper didn’t help himself following the publicity.

He showed up minor league pitchers and umpires. He went down to the wire negotiating with the Washington Nationals. He rooted for/roots for the Yankees, Cowboys, Lakers, Duke basketball, and Texas football. He named his dog “Swag.” He wears ugly eye black.

Harper is the kind of guy who knows he’s the absolute worst and does everything in his power to prove it and own it. In a way, it’s endearing. It’s more endearing than say Kevin Durant, who is also the worst, but wants to prove that he’s a truly good guy who is simply misunderstood.

It still makes Harper the worst.

Fans who dislike Harper can take solace in the fact that he has zero series wins in the postseason. Yes, despite being the greatest baseball player of all-time in his own mind, he has not gotten out of the division series. Baseball is the least team sport of all the team sports and great hitters can only influence the game once every three innings. But it’s not like his postseason numbers are sparkling.

But would you want Harper on your team?

“That’s a clown question, bro.”
