Matthew Tkachuk

Matthew Tkachuk has been in the NHL for two seasons.

And Drew Doughty, one of the best defensemen in the NHL, already believes he’s the most hated player in the league.

It started in Tkachuk’s rookie season, when he was suspended two games for elbowing Doughty. A few weeks later, Tkachuk took a run at Doughty, trying to hit him with a pro wrestling move known as “the rear-view.” He missed, but the intent was there. Since then, the two go at each other any chance they can get.

Doughty isn’t the only player who hates Tkachuk. Here’s a video of Tkachuk smelling gloves and throwing punches.

Keep in mind. This kid is in his second season. He’s already getting under the skin of just about every player in the league in just his second season. It takes a special player to be this hated in their second season. And he was doing this in his rookie season. It takes most players years to earn the reputation as a pest. Tkachuk earned the reputation nearly overnight.

To make matters worse. He’s a skilled player. He could be a 30 goal scorer next season. Pests are always more annoying when they screw up your day and are good enough to celebrate.

Imagine seeing a spider, getting scared, and tripping as you run away. That sucks. You’re mad at the spider. But then you call your significant other to kill it for you. Problem solved. Now, imagine if, not only can your significant other not kill this spider, but this spider taunts you while your significant other swings and misses with his or her shoe.

And this spider isn’t going away. It’s going to be around for another 15 years.
